In 2001, the Honorable Wilson E. Fields was elected to serve as a District Court Judge for Division O of the 19th Judicial District Court in East Baton Rouge Parish. He has served multiple consecutive terms since being elected. Judge Fields currently serves as Chief Judge of the 19th Judicial District Court, and previously served as Chief Judge for a two and a half year term commencing in 2019.  Judge Fields is a graduate of Southern University in Baton Rouge Louisiana and earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Management. During his senior year at Southern University, Judge Fields served as President of the Student Government Association (SGA) while simultaneously serving as the student member on the Louisiana Board of Regents.

Upon graduating from Southern University, Judge Fields continued his education at the Southern University Law Center and received his Doctor of Jurisprudence. Judge Fields continued his education at Tulane Law School, where he earned his Master of Law Degree. Judge Fields also committed to serving the State of Louisiana as a Judge Advocate General (JAG) Officer in the Louisiana Army National Guard.

Judge Fields was elected to the East Baton Rouge Parish Metropolitan Council at the age of 23, and became the youngest to ever serve as a City Council member in Baton Rouge’s history. In 1994, he was featured among the 30 Most Influential Young Black Leaders of America. At the age of 26, Judge Fields was elected to serve as Louisiana State Senator District – 15, and was the youngest State Senator serving in the Louisiana Legislature. He was elected to a second term as a State Senator because of his commitment and dedication to the constituents of his district.

Judge Fields spearheaded and founded the Complex Litigation section at the 19th Judicial District Court. The Complex Litigation Section of the Court was created to facilitate complex legal matters in an expedient and efficient matter. Judge Fields is currently the presiding Judge over the  19th Judicial Court’s Complex Litigation Section while presiding over his regular civil docket.

Judge Fields is the father of two boys and enjoys spending time with his family, watching sports, and being outdoors.
